Objective of the FUTURE Project

The FUTURE project aims to strengthen civil society organizations (CSOs) working in the field of environmental protection in Bosnia and Herzegovina, enabling them to become more competent, resilient, and sustainable actors in environmental governance, advocacy, and decision-making processes.

The project is implemented by the Regional Environmental Center (REC) with financial support from the Government of Sweden, focusing on capacity development of environmental CSOs, strengthening cooperation with institutions, and alignment with European environmental standards.

Through long-term support, FUTURE contributes to:

  • professionalization and sustainability of environmental CSOs
  • strengthening their role in policy development and monitoring
  • improving transparency and accountability in environmental governance
  • enhanced cooperation between civil society, public institutions, and academia
What Our Project Does?

The project Strengthening Capacities for Monitoring and Planning Green–Blue Infrastructure (EcoDataLab), implemented by NET BALKAN within the FUTURE program, focuses on strengthening technical, human, and organizational capacities for ecosystem monitoring and green–blue infrastructure planning.

Through the project, the following areas are being developed:

  • systems for collecting, integrating, and analyzing data on soil, water, and biodiversity
  • application of GIS technologies, satellite, and aerial data in environmental monitoring
  • development of protocols for applying Nature-based Solutions (NbS)
  • cooperation with academic institutions and relevant organizations

At the same time, the project enhances NET BALKAN’s internal capacities through recruitment of key staff, procurement of equipment, and improvement of organizational procedures, creating a solid foundation for long-term, professional, and transparent work.

Key and Overall Objective of the EcoDataLab Project

The main objective of the project Strengthening Capacities for Monitoring and Planning Green–Blue Infrastructure (EcoDataLab) is to enable NET BALKAN to carry out scientifically grounded ecosystem monitoring and data-driven decision-making, with a strong focus on the application of Nature-based Solutions and sustainable management of natural resources.

This provides a basis for contributing to public policies, spatial planning, and climate adaptation processes through reliable data and modern analytical tools.

Why This Project Is Important?

The FUTURE project, implemented by the Regional Environmental Center (REC) with the support of the Government of Sweden, strengthens environmental civil society organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, enabling them to play a more active and informed role in environmental governance and policy-making.

Within this framework, the project Strengthening Capacities for Monitoring and Planning Green–Blue Infrastructure (EcoDataLab) addresses a critical gap in the sector-the lack of reliable data, tools, and capacities for ecosystem monitoring. By promoting data-driven planning and the application of Nature-based Solutions, the project supports biodiversity protection, climate adaptation, and sustainable management of natural resources, contributing to more effective and transparent environmental decision-making.
